Flowing Through Time

FLOWING THROUGH TIME

The Water Resource Narrative

Exhibition Design | Freelance Project | Autuam 2021

An immersive exhibition design crafted for the Water Resource Planning Institution Taiwan. This innovative exhibition, located in their office building Taichung, invites visitors on a fluid journey through the ebbs and flows of Taiwan’s water resource management and the institution’s pivotal role in shaping it.

At the heart of this design lies the metaphor of water’s intrinsic properties—fluidity and movement. I have reimagined the architectural space to encapsulate these qualities, introducing sinuous walls that rise and bend like the meandering course of a river. Above, the ceiling is enlivened with sweeping wooden slats that cascade across it, echoing the ripples on a water’s surface. These dynamic forms not only guide visitors through the space, suggesting an intuitive path of exploration but also unify the architectural elements, creating a harmonious interplay between form and function.

Visitors are enveloped in a flow sensation as they traverse the space, reflecting the perpetual movement of water that shapes lands, nurtures civilizations, and forms the narrative thread of our history with this vital resource.

Main Hall

The main hall of the exhibition space stands as a testament to the core values of fluidity, movement, and narrative in design. The curved walls serve to partition the hall into discrete areas for reflection and learning without interrupting the unity of the space.

Above, the ceiling unfolds in a sweeping motion with layered wooden strips, evoking the gentle undulations of water’s surface. This feature serves not only as a guide for the eyes but also subtly directs the flow of visitors through the space.

The warm, inviting tones of the woodwork contrast with the cool white of the walls, suggesting the balance between nature and the built environment.
